So where`s the Mouthpiece rescue SQUAD ?

Hello!

A few days ago I snatched an old clarinet for cheap, including this Ebonite mouthpiece which plays very nice but never seemed to having been cleaned before: http://i9.tinypic.com/4qgxvlg.jpg
If you take a look into the chamber it more resembles of a cave with stalagmites and stalagtites building up already than a mouthpiece chamber.
For I don`t ever scrub or wipe out the inside of my clarinet mouthpieces (I just flush them clean with water) to
keep them working optimal over the longest period of time possible I don`t know right how to clean this one without destroying it. Flushing it with water doesn`t help at all, the crud is too sticky. What can I take to soften this crust so it can be flushed off with water? Vinegar, citric acid or petrol might work fine at a first glance, but they are aggressive against the sensible rubber material, too. And I don`t want a clean looking mpc for the price of porousity later on. Any ideas?

Greetings,
Kruzi

Take what you`ve got and make the best of it!

The Doctor has a mouthpiece cleaning solzent that you can order. I'm sure that others will have ideas that don't require ordering something, however.

A bit of vinegar and an old toothbrush will take care of that.
