Former Houston Symphony clarinetist Herman Randolph passed away this week at age 76. He was a fixture in the Houston clarinet scene for the last 50 years. I was fortunate to play with him on many concerts, and his wit and charm will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
The Houston Chronicle did a nice article on him here:

Hi,
The tributes in the obit are really charming and very meaningful. It sounds like Randolph had a wit and presence that were a pleasure to be around.
As some of us on the BB are beginning to push the envelope in years, the example of Randolph returning to music as an active listener when not able to be a player was very moving. The fingers may have lost their zip but the ears and the mind go on and on.
I know I would have enjoyed knowing him.

The recordings of Houston and Stoki with Randolph are very nice...I seem to remember Brahms 1 and Carmina Burana on EMI Capitol as being superb. He has a beauty of a sound.
