Can some one tell me the difference in a $200 bam case VS a Protec case and a $35 case for my clarinet.

Besides the inexplicable price difference, the Bam case I recieved with a Leblanc Concerto II, could be used as a backpack and the case opened length wise instead of side to side. I have a Protec that cost me about $25 used on ebay and serves it's purpose quite well. I also have a Gator case that was about $35 new that seems to be just as good as the Protec. I have never been able to justify the high prices of Bam, at least for the clarinet cases.

I just got a Protec case for my Bb to replace the heavier double case I had originally. It's lightweight, very well-padded, has plenty of compartments (your wet swab can be stored in a separate zippered pouch away from your horn), two independent velcro-secured clasps, plus a zipper closure, and comes with a carrying strap. Just shy of 50 bucks at WWBW:

I think I'd would be hard-pressed to see why the BAM (costing over three times as much) would be a better choice. And if you can find a good case for $35, I'd probably choose that over the Protec. If you plan to transport your instrument through torrential rains, I'm sure a nice plastic trash bag sliped over the case would work very well.

There was a recent post on here where a poster had his Bam case in the rain in England and the case did not do a good job aginst the water. I know many people who bought the Bam case only to have the zipper break after 1 or 2 years of ownership.
Why are they so expensive?
Because thats what Buffet charges for their double case and because some consumers are going to be enticed because of the high price.
The protec double case is nice and is about 90-100 dollars.
Yamaha makes a nice double case that is about 90-120 dollars.
Woodwind and Brasswind has a case made by "the Woodwind" company for 50 dollars.
All of these are very similar to the Bam at a fraction of the cost.

Of all the products made for clarinets, I think the case is one of the only products you could buy the least expensive, and still be content.

I'm currently using a BAM double case. I've justified the cost because of the extra huge pocket in the back, which, being a student, I can stuff my textbooks in. I no longer have to try to wear my regular backpack which a shoulder-strapped double clarinet case on top and then trying to balance while trying to haul the bass and contra at the same time. When I tried to combine my backpack with a clarinet "briefcase," I couldn't find enough hands to carry them all, and now I can carry all of them at once along with my school books. I guess that's what I get for playing the big clarinets in ensembles and still having to carry the little ones for lessons and chamber.
