I have a Buffet Bb Boehm clarinet with a wrap-around register key. I have been trying to figure out how old it is. Its serial number is 724?1. "?" looks like a C, but Buffet says no such number exists. If it is a zero, it suggests that it was made in 1962; but I did not think that wrap-around keys were used any more by that time. Any ideas out there?

1909 is certainly a plausible date. I have a Bb/A pair of Buffets from 1908, both of which have the wrap-around register key.
Scrub the serial number with an old, dampened toothbrush to get the crud out and you'll be able to read the numbers and letters more easily.

My thanks to those who steered/informed me about my dear old horn. The Buffet website said that there was no such critter, but I have (thanks to the threads) found two others that confirmed that it was made in 1909.

I have an 'A' with the wrap around key from 1928. If the one you have is like mine, I have 2 words- run away.

The Buffet serial number lookup doesn't go back past the middle of the 20th century for professional clarinets.
