Does Glotin make reed blanks for clarinet?

I heard that they did...but are hard to find these days...

Anyone know where to get them?

Hey "chris"

I haven't seen glotin blanks available for quite some time. Obviously, you can make your own blanks from glotin tubes, which are readily available from weiner music i believe

Rod Rubber,

thanks, yeah I actually use the tubes to make the blanks....just figured if it was the same cane...the blanks would save me tons of time.

Chris,
To me, buying the blanks is the same as buying VDs, because you don't know what each one is going to be. With the tube i can control several factors to a certain extent. 1. I can take the piece of wood from a tube with thick, but not too thick walls. 2. I can also take the hardest part of the tube, as i prefer hard reeds. I think the part of the tube opposite of the indentation from the stem is the hardest part. If i make a reed from that part of the tube, and it sounds good, its more probable that the adjacent quarters of the tube will also be vibrant and sound good. Sometimes, these quarters will be softer, or perhaps too soft. Occasionaly, the entire tube is too soft, and I just discard it.

Glotins is thought to be some of the harder tube cane. Also, I had relatvely strong succes with Xilema tubes. I had limited success with Mdme Ghys

One thing i can always control is that i throw out bad reeds. If there is a hole in it, i just chuck, where as vandoren would sell it to you.
