 Mouthpiece caps for reverse ligatures?
Author: Meri

Anyone know of where I can get a mouthpiece cap for a reverse ligature? Or was the hour or so I spent adapting a regular plastic one well spent?

Luyben makes a cap that fits over Luyben ligatures. Rovner makes a cap that fits over Rovner ligatures. I don't think it's so much (though that may have a small effect) that they are reverse but that these ligatures are thicker than the metal ones so standard caps won't fit over them.

What ligature were you trying to fit?

I have ended up with a box full of caps, trying to fit a variety of mp/lig sizes. My only thought is to buy a "fitting" cap when you buy the lig. Sometimes an alto sax cap will fit a larger lig. Keep trying!, Don

When you buy a BG inverted ligature, you get a mouthpiece cap with it. The cap is wider than a normal one.

"Standard" ligatures (you know, plain metal, screws on the reed side) do not usually come with caps as normal, generic caps will fit them. Some metal inverted ligatures do not come with caps either (e.g. Bonade). When the ligature design is such that a standard cap will not fit, several makers do include a cap with the ligature (e.g. Rovner). Other makers do not include it but have it available as a separate item to purchase.
