 repertoire recommendations

Hi everyone. I'm currently in the middle of preparing for a final masters recital in November/December some time. The current program is Francaix Theme and Variations, Schumann Romances, and Bartok Contrasts. I'm possibily going to have to change the Bartok for something else because I am having difficulties with violinists. I'm having a hard time thinking of something to replace it. Other pieces I've been working on are the Mozart Concerto, John Adams Gnarly Buttons, and Brahms Trio but these are all 25 mins at least. I really need something closer to the 20 min mark. Any suggestions under about 25 mins would be great.

Replace the violinist with a soprano and do "Shepherd on the Rock". To get close to the twenty minute mark, you could also perform "Parto, Parto" from La Clemenza di Tito.

I would suggest Milhaud's Suite for Violin, Clarinet and Piano. Wonderful piece!

It would barely fill the twenty minute mark...more like thirteen minutes...but you could could add the Osborne Rhapsody perhaps?

I think you need another masterwork to replace the Bartok, so I'll suggest two works that will fill in the time and the tone as well: Berg Vier Stucke for clarinet and piano, and either the Milhaud Ouverture-Suite, or the Khachaturian Trio. Although everybody plays the Abime on clarinet concerts, the piece doesn't work as a solo, rather it is in the fabric of a bigger work.
The Penderecki suite, made from the violin suite works very well with the Berg, but the two don't make the time you need. If you've a flutist, how about the Choros #2 of Villa Lobos, not frequently done but highly effective. Have fun.

One of the Brahms sonatas would balence that program out nicely. Another option is the Hillendale Waltzes by Babbin and Schubert's shepherd on the rock.

You could also look at the Tedesco sonata which has it's moments but is not done a whole lot.

Ingolf Dahls Concerto A Tre is a great 20 minute piece but you need darn good string players.

I would pair the Schubert with something else because it is so easy to put together as long as you have a decent singer.

Muczynsky has a trio for clarinet cello and piano. I don't recall exactly how long it is but I think it is a bit of a crowd pleaser and since you are trying to replace a trio maybe it's something to consider. I've really enjoyed playing it, though it doesn't have the demands of the Bartok.
