Dear members,

Could anyone tell me more about the Getzen student clarinet??
What can I expect from that instrument??
(Keep in mind that I am a passionate Buffet Crampon player!)
A search at Google wasn't too succesfull!!

Kind regards,

Johan

The only Getzen student clarinets I remember as a band director (29+ years), now retired, were in the early- to - mid 1960s, and they were little more than junk (IMHO).

I found one at an antique mall not too long ago that I picked up rather cheap. After re-attaching all of the keys, it plays nicely in tune with a pretty warm tone. I prefer my R-13, so if I ever have a starting student who needs a decent instrument fairly cheap, I'll probably sell it.

As a doubler (windwood/brass) I'm a proud owner of a great Getzen trumpet. Sorry to say I've never heard about any Getzen woodwind instrument produced in Elkhart. Could there have been any other company using the same name? To find out the correct answere I suggest you to contact the head office. The Getzen staff are great people. Good luck!

I don't have documentation for this, but I heard that there was a big fire at the Getzen factory in the 60s leading to the loss of most of the factory. After the fire, they just made brass instruments.

Guy next to me bought an entry-level Getzen cornet. The lacquer came off... so he sent it back.

Straight away they replaced it with the next model up, free of charge! That's customer service. And this one sounds really nice, too.
