Does anybody know anything about Donizetti's Concertino for clarinet and orchestra? Is it originally by Donizetti? Thanks.

Essentially it says that the work is a reconstruction from sketches in Donizetti's hand. The first movement appears to have been reconstructed from a work for oboe(?), though. The second movement appears to exist in both score and piano reduction. The reconstruction of the recording is by Marc Andreae.
I have an earlier recording (on a Koch/Schwann LP) that has only one movement (presumably the second). The (very brief) liner notes give no information about the background of the piece. They also don't identify any editor. My copy of the sheet music (Eulenburg) is also a single movement which corresponds to the second on the Naxos recording.

That's really interesting to know.
My friend had asked if there was any clarinet music by the composer as he really liked his works and I found this one. In my University Music Library I had found scores of different ages, and some had both movements while others had only one which I found really interesting...

This edition of Donizetti's Concertino for Clarinet and Orchestra is an attempt to reconstruct the original form of the work. It is based on sketches in Donizettis' own hand for the first movement entitled Esquisse pour hautbois et piano by Charles Malherbe, and copies stemming from the hand of Guido Zavandini for the second movement.
