searching for an A

I'm spending my summer looking for an A clarinet. You might say I fit into the "penniless college student" category, so I'm most interested in used instruments. I've been advised to contact other clarinetists (college professors especially). Does anyone know of any Buffet, Leblanc or Selmer As on the market? Thanks for any information you can provide.

The new Orsi and Weir a clarinet was introduced at ClarFest. As soon as John Weir can put together several, he'll be sending them to me to pick one out!

To paraphrase a famous quote: the herd instinct in clarinetists makes sheep
look like independent thinkers. If this does NOT apply to you, try one of Tom Ridenour's Lyrique A clarinets. Mine is by far the best A I've played.

I second the recommendation for Ridenour's clarinet in A - it's a giant killer.

I have known a few students at NY conservatories that change clarinets every few years- they are usually not the 'pennyless' type. If you call those schools, they might put up an ad for you; if someone has something, they can contact you.

He has a really nice A Buffet instrument at a good price that he hasn't put up on his Web site yet.

all those you mentioned. Also, ask if they can put a note in the clarinet teachers' mailboxes- that way there is more chance that the students find out.
