Hi all.
this is clarinet related, bear with me.
i had a scary dream last night. i had parked my car at the bottom of a hill and went inside a house. it was raining. when i came outside my car was flooded-completely underwater. this was not the scary part. the scary part was my clarinet was in the backseat of the car and i knew that it was all wet and underwater. so i spent the rest fo the dream completely freaking out because i know that clarinets aren't supposed to get baths, and i was convinced that it was ruined (i think it would be under those circumstances, wouldn't it?)
you have no idea how relieved i was when i woke up and saw my clarinet sitting next to my bed, safe and dry!
wonder what my subconscience has been up to lately...
anyone else have scary music-related dreams?
or even not scary ones?

hmmmm.. i'm not sure how much of that i accept. the dream may not mean anything.
but, i am starting to look for grad schools, so maybe that has something to do with the "i'm overwhelmed by the clarinet" or my perceived ability.

I had a dream that aside from the same handful of works written from 50 to 200 years ago, very little clarinet music is programmed in our major concert halls, that the clarinet is losing relevance to today's audiences - being replaced with electronics or the more popular saxophone, that the prices of many clarinets are rising with little increase in quality, that CD's, record sales and concert attendance are all declining at an alarming pace, that many of our symphony orchestras are battling budget woes - cutting performances and reducing pay for musicians, and live music at shows, weddings and clubs is becoming a rarity, rather than the norm.
Then I woke up and found out it was all true...GBK

Heh.
I had a dream once that I opened my case and found my keys all completely MESSED and bent/broken etc...started going crazy, and-
BAM
I wake up. I run to my clarinet case just to see it all nice and pretty, and as I open the case - NOO!! The bell has an inch-wide crack in it! NOOO!
BAM
I wake up. This time, for real. I go to my case and all's well.
That was annoying.

I am continuously having dreams where I'm late to major auditions or I've just been informed of their existence. The scariest was when someone told me I had to perform the Nielsen from memory in front of a huge audience - and my clarinet broke backstage. I think I've also had a few dreams about my clarinet dropping and shattering. Scary stuff.

In undergrad I had a recurring dream around the times I was stressed. It involved a tornado coming to hit my dorm and the Conservatory as well as other things around. In my dream I always had to go get my clarinet from my locker at the Con and get back to my dorm to head into the basement there before the tornado came and blew everything around...

Just last night I dreamed I was on a bus going on a band trip. Didn't remember the process of boarding but thought I must have had my clarinet when I did. Went looking for it in the luggage racks of the bus, could not find it anywhere. Saw several other similar cases but not mine.
It is safely where it belongs this morning!
