Hi there, I am currently practising Ellerby's Sonata for an exam I am taking at the end of this year. and i would like to know your opinions of the tempo that i shld take for each of the 3 movements. This is my first post here and i hope i can learn alot from your more experience clarinetist out there!

I'm not familiar with this work. Is that the same Martin Ellerby who writes massive works for brass band? If so, I'd like to hear it - if its anything like the stuff I've heard of his.

yup. it is the same Martin Ellerby that wrote paris sketches. the sonata comprises of 3 movements, the 1st focus on the higer range, 2nd on the lower and the 3rd a flurry of notes. the entire thing is a mix of classical and jazz. very interesting piece of music. hopefully somebody could help me with the tempi of the 3 movements

Ben,
I have just picked up a recording of this piece by Linda Merrick. Her tempos seem to vary quite a bit through each movement but I think I might be able to pick up her approximate baseline tempos if you can give me the time signatures of each movements. (Or you could try e-mailing her directly.)
Best regards,
jnk
