I'm not sure if this has been covered before, and I apologize in advance if these questions seems a bit strange.
Are there any health risk associated with putting a reed in your mouth? Do they use pesticides on the reeds? And, do we know how clean the factories they make reeds in are?
I'm not a germ-phobe, but I like to know what I'm putting in my mouth.
thanks in advance,
jonathan

If you use a weak household grade (3% strength) hydrogen peroxide and water solution, you will get most of the mean nasties in short order. Just splash a little H2O2 with plenty of H2O in a clean shallow drinking glass or a teacup. Approximately a 1 unit of peroxide per 5 or so units of water will work okay. Don't soak the reed too long in the solution, about 5 minutes or so will do fine. This is not a 100% cure, but it's not a bad start.
