Do you practice outside? In the yard, on the porch, under a tree, beside the garden... Why or why not?

When on vacation in our cabin in the mountains, with no one else around, it's just great to play on a hilltop nearby. Especially at sunset.
Cattle, goats and sheep are curious animals and will come closer when you start playing. They seem to favour local tunes and light classic, are indifferent re jazz or blues, and for some strange reason go graze elsewhere when I play Klezmer. Maybe they aren't used to HM5/freygisch scales. <shrug>

When I lived at home, yes. When it's nice weather, I'd play scales on my front steps, walking up and down the yard, and just play out in the sun. Just for a change of scenery and cause it was a nice day and I didn't want to stay cooped up inside.
Now that I'm in stationed in Iraq . . . yes. Out back or the side of the band hall. But still inside the concrete barrier in case of incoming. Same reasons.

Yep -- all the time. (Well, from May - October, anyway...) I play on the screen porch or deck. I like to be outside, even when there's work to be done -- might as well work on long tones and scales outside instead of in my stuffy office. As an added bonus, the squirrels and raccoons never come around when I'm playing outside. Not sure what that says about my sound, but at least they stay out of the bird feeders for a while... :-)

I play indoors only. I try to be considerate of my neighbors, and I'm not sure they have the same appreciation of my music as I do.
(I wonder if Stolzman's neighbors ever complain?)

I'm pretty lucky in that regard. I live on 5 acres, so only my immediate neighbor can hear me. Poor woman must have a tin ear -- she loves to listen to me.

Gino Cioffi told me that, when he was a young boy in Italy, he used to practice all day long outdoors in his family's fig orchard, pausing only to refresh himself with figs fresh off the tree!
We've played harmoniemusik outdoors at my house, but no al fresco practice. I do have deer peer in my studio windows on occasion when I'm teaching, though.

Inside due to lots of neighbours.
However - the old lady that lives a few doors away still says she can hear me play! Fortunately she was saying it was nice to hear someone learning rather than making a complaint. But it's still a bit off putting to that many people can hear everything.
