Wonderful time. Some really incredible music. RM was incredible, but would have liked to see somemore representation from top 5 organizations. The new music was unbelievable. First time I saw Eric Mandate. What a wonderful young talent.

I saw David Blumberg today, ahahah.
I also heard the Rossini Intro, Theme, Variation 11 times yesterday, which made my fall asleep... obviously
All else was excellent

I heard the Rossini only 5 times yesterday. I had to leave to get something to eat. It took another musical performance for me to get the music out of my head. It was interesting to hear the differences in interpretation back-to-back.
This afternoon I hear the Vintage Quartet from Portugal. What an astounding group! They put on an amazing performance that to me will be one of the highlights of this ClarinetFest. Check them out at www.quartetovintage.com. However, there have been many other highlights too. In short, it has definitely been worth it to come to the beautiful city of Vancouver (one of my favorite cities in the world) and hear such phenomenal clarinet playing, both ensemble and solo.
Oh yea--and I saw a guy walking around with a clarinet.org T-shirt. Turns out the name on his ID badge was Mark Charette. Now I know what our webmaster looks like. BTW Mark, thanks for doing a great job with bulletin board!

Did anyone hear the LA Clarinet Choir while they were up there?

How did they do?

"Maury Backun did a better job at providing free food that I ever could "

That is probably most likely true... O man there was just soooo much food there (not a great variety tho, but what it's free, what can i expect?)
Yum yum

Btw what do you guys think of the new Leblancs? (well they're not that new, and im sure someone well soon tell me to use the search function...)

was there with a friend ... and several teacher. All play Buffet. Problem is that Buffet has very little. Best was the Prestige A's and Greenline Tosca. I am not qualified to have an opinion! He preferred the Leblunc to what Buffet has at the show, but ... not over any of his current buffets. Why buy something new if it is not better then what you have.

Backun stuff ... all over the place everyone played on it (well just about). I would imagine Morales would have sounded great on a Yamahammer! But what surpised me was this friend liked the bells, or at least one that he said solved some intonation problems. It is the bell with the hole (the extra hole) in it.

He spent several minutes looking at selmer, and tested the Yamahammers. Did not like the feel, but in typical Jap engineering form, they are dead nuts on (That is a technical term from My Cousin Vinnie).

The focus though was on Oris * Weir. They did not seem to get much traffic the 3 days we were there, but he felt that they had the best sound, and feel of any of the clarinets there, and at a price of $2,300 US they are a steal. Once again he has several clarinets so ...

Fest was incredible. Concerts superb. Lots of friendly clarinetists!

The visit to the Backun workshop was great fun, the tour through the facilities very informative, and good heavens there was a LOT of product on the tables. Never seen that many barrels and/or bells in one place at one time. The BBQ was amazing as well!! ;) Jeremy Backun had a Disneyland-esque line snaking around one of the machines as he cranked out mini-bell keychains for people out of barrel blanks.

The Yamaha CSG A clarinet is absolutely fantastic, ditto with the LeBlanc Symphonie A. And Rossi's Eb clarinet was a gem!

Have to fly out in seven hours, so I'd better get to sleep. ;)
