Hi. At band camp earlier this summer, my sectional teacher helped me get rid of a bunched chin that I've had since I started playing. I can play now ALMOST as well as I had, but I still need to develop a feel for pointing my chin. Anyways, is it possible I may be pointing it too much? i don't know if there is supposed to be some jaw pressure, or none at all. I'm kinda stuck, and don't know where to go. Also, since I've changed, I'm having A LOT of trouble tonguing. If I use 3's, my chin starts trying to bunch up, and starts twitching when I try to tongue fast runs. If I use 3 1/2's, that doesn't happen, although I think I use more jaw pressure than I should when I play 3 1/2's, because I haven't developed the muscles enough. I'm just confused, and I'm in the process of getting a private teacher, so I don't have one yet. Thanks for any help.

I think it's possible to do anything to excess. This is exactly the kind of problem that needs a teacher who can see what you're actually doing. While you're finding a teacher, watching yourself in the mirror can help, too. If you get one of those instruction videotapes from the library or music store, watch the tape and then watch yourself in the mirror and compare what you do to what you see the professional player doing. Sometimes what it feels like isn't what it looks like!
