A magnificent, profusely illustrated catalog of the Nicholas Shackleton clarinet collection has been published. http://www.homepages.ed.ac.uk/ezhm01/ubls.html.
It goes for £50, a bit over $100, but I'm still going to buy it. At the bottom of the page, the publisher offers a 1/3 discount for orders of £120. If two others are interested, we can save a lot.

Ken
I am definitely in on this if we can find a third person and as long as the US/UK distance between us does not cause a problem (i.e. they can post to you, me and one other direct). We would also need to sort out payment mechanisms.
Is there a third person who would join in?

Did you find a third? If not, I'm in. If so, I'll start a second group.

Gary van Cott ordered 10 copies, and I decided to get mine through him. It was a few dollars more, but I saved the hassle of breaking open a shipment of three and then reshipping them, which would have pushed the price up close to what I paid. See below under Clarinet Porn.

holy smokes. how does a group go about collecting so many instruments from different manufacturers? Are they donated by the manufacturer or by other musicians?

I have the Shackleton Catalog. What a collection! No wonder boxwood clarinets are so scarce! The Catalog is great.

Just got my Shackleton Catalog from Gary and it's terrific!
If you can spare the dollars...get it! It's well worth the price, the photos are outstanding. It's too good for the coffee table but it's good to have around handy for dipping into at leisure.

I ordered the book from Gary van Cott also, and am glad he's a sponsor, because he has great products and is a really nice guy.
I was amazed when looking at the book at how many of the clarinets were acquired through Ebay. I think it even said in the preface that he saw the value of Ebay very early on.
Beautiful book...well worth the money.
