Hi!
I'm a clarinetplayer in a symphonic orchestra. The conductor of this orchestra asked me and the other clarinetist to look for a double concerto, so we can play solo together. Does somebody now a nice double concerto? I don't like to play Weber, Mozart and others of those kind. I like to play Hindemith, Bernstein, Brahms. Thanks in advance. x Suzanne

I'm taking summer courses and am not near my music library, but are two such pieces by Krommer, very much in the classical style of Mozart. If you search the topics on this website, you'll find more information. My guess is within the last three or four years.
I hope you find them. They are fun to play AND the orchestra parts are available for rental. There are also piano accompaniments for sale.

Try looking it up on the internet. If you can't find anything there, maybe you could try having Brahms's Clarinet Trio (Clarinet, Cello, Piano, I think) arranged or transcribed for this purpose.

Brymer lists many concertos, the Krommer is no 32 on pg 223 of my paperback, best wishes, Don

Yes there is, Moi, but it's actually for Basset horn and Clarinet if my memory serves me correctly. My friend has an arrangement for two clarinets, however.

You are probably thinking of the Mendelssohn's "Concert Piece No. 1" or "Concert Piece No. 2" I believe that both of these are for clarinet and basset horn but are commonly arranged for two clarinets. I personally prefer the second one over the first one. I'm not cure though whether they would be classified as concertos though.

There is also a "concert" for two clarinets from Baermann with piano. (I'm not sure if Baermann was the clarinetits who first played the Weber's concertos or the Brahm's sonatas). Is a nice piece on the "romantic" style, with some very difficult passages. I've played it 14 years ago as second clarinet! I remember the edition was Schott... maybe I'm wrong.

Sorry to write so late! I only know of one double concerto for two clarinets. It is by Franz Tausch. It is a nice concerto, but it is not anything to write home about!
