Maynig or mening is Hans Moenig's pronunciation, don't recall which one it was, but not moan at all.

If you pronounce the river Vitava as Moldau, you can also say whatever you wish, particularly if you are an announcer of classical music.

Funny that - I was just thinking of some strange pronunciations earlier.
Couesnon is almost like 'Kweh-no' or 'Quai-no' (almost as in 'volcano')
There's several presenters on UK's Classic FM that have some serious pronounciation issues - they usually say:
Tann-how-ser instead of Tann-hoy-ser
Marisa Roe-bells instead of Robles
Da-vor-ak instead of Vor-zhak
Till You-len-spiegel instead of Oil-en-shpiegel
(I'll bung on some more classics as I remember or hear them)
Last night a presenter mentioned a world famous tenor from Medina - I don't know of any famous tenors from the Isle Of Wight!
She meant 'Modena'.
