I just wanted to express my amazement at this piece. It is a clarinet concerto for clarinet and wind ensemble. What an incredibly written piece. It is very jazzy (as is much of Daugherty's music for orchestra and wind ensemble) but definitely uses an incredible amount of contemporary techniques and a lot of lyricism. I'm not sure who the clarinetist or wind ensemble is (it is a promotional recording distributed by Boosey & Hawkes and they didn't give any credit to the performers) but they're absolutely breathtaking. The clarinetist has that perfect balance and the agility and gracefulness that they are able to get around this very difficult solo part is absolutely incredible. Fantastic piece and great recording - I wish I could tell you more about the latter but I've given you all the info I have.
Anyway if you are looking for a challenge I highly recommend this piece and would recommend getting a recording yourself from B&H or from one of the commercial vendors as a couple of recordings were done this year of this piece by a variety of college groups.
