 Synthetic Reed Alert
Author: Mario
Date:   2000-07-05 17:16

There is a new synthetic reed out there that should be interesting to try. BG (the well-known French Company) has just introduced a hybrid reed with natural cane contained inside a transparant polymer. It looks/feels like a very dark cane reed.

At the moment, only saxophone reeds are available.

Naturally, according to BG, this is the ultimate reed: the response and color of carefully selected/prepared cane, with the stability, robustness and reliability of plastic. BG tells me that these reeds are better than the Legere (the very best synthetic at the moment).

Unfortunately, they have not introduced yet a clarinet reed built from this technology (will come later this year). But, this is clearly a new product to watch and try when it becomes available for us.
