Sorry, but I couldn't find you're E-Mail address on the board, so I'm asking you out in the open. Why at the beginning of the year (I've been reading past posts) have you, and others taken it out of 'The Freshman'. I'm from the UK and understand that this is the last year of high school (Am I wrong?).
More generally: What is it with clarinettists and age, surely anyone of any age should be allowed to play the clarinet? (Unless their incapable of holding it?) I was alarmed by the past suggestions of people of a certain age, not being able to audition for this, that, and bla, bla, bla.

In Japan high school is three years course. College is four years except medical department of five years.Semester begins April 1st and ends in October. American fiscal year begins January 1st, right? Car in U.S. runs right side. Take care when crossing American road. Look right side first then left.

Sorry I haven't responded, I've been gone, I actually just got back into the country yesterday. The stereotype is upperclassmen pick on freshman. I try not to, but I guess I'm not doing as good as I thought I was. I don't know why people do it, I guess it's an ego thing, I'm older than you, I must be better than you. I'll never understand it.
I think anyone that can play clarinet should be able to audition for and play in any honor band. I'm sure there are many people too young to audition that are better than people that make it into these honor bands. A logical reason would be to cut down on the number of people auditioning.
On bigger horns, it's not such an age thing as experience on the clarinet and a "can you handle it?" issue. As a fifth grader on bass clarinet, I did not have any experience on clarinet (at all) and I couldn't even carry the thing. But now, I have experience and I can actually carry it.
I hope this clears things up for you.
