Well, I finally went and ordered a couple of mouthpieces from our good friend here, Walter Grabler. Over the past two weeks, I have had the pleasure of auditining two excllent examples of his work: a CZX K13 an a CZX K14. It took few days to really get a feel for them, an a little longer to decide which one suited my style better.
In the end, I ended up sending back the K14 nd keeping the K13, as I liked the tonal qualities of this one a touch better. Either one would have been an omprovement over my previous Zinner-based mouthpiece from another manufacturer. These two also cured a pesky problem I was having on intonation, so it's a double winnner for me. Better tone AND intonation.
A great job, and as always, Walter is a pleasure to deal with. I know I am starting to sound like skipping CD. A couple of weeks ago, I was praising the Doctor's Products, and now Walter. Hey... give credit when credit is due. Not enough people say things about vendors who treat them well. You will always hear about the bad experiences, but rarely about the good ones. My experiences with spoonors of these boards have been unifrmly excellent.

Glad you like your new mouthpiece. I also tried the K13 and the K14, but decided to go with the K14. Both are excellent mouthpieces.

He certainly knows what he's doing. I've tried some of his mouthpieces on my quest and really liked them. Great quality stuff.

One of these days, I am going to try one or two or Walter G's new CXLB bass clarinet mpc--although it will have to be tremedously good to beat the CXBS (discontinued) model which I play and love. Thanks for your input regarding his Kaspar models.

I never had the pleasure of trying his CXBS (it was discontinued when I was ready to buy) but I love the CXLB.
I'll try his soprano mouthpieces at some point in the future.

Careful - Walter's mouthpieces are addictive! Right now I have two of his bass mouthpieces (CX_PERS and CXLB), two Bb mouthpieces (Chicago and K13), one alto mouthpiece, and one Eb mouthpiece. I love all of them and consider them a great investment.

Te poor guy was swampped when I ordered mine. He was just finishing off his stock of pieces for the Oklahoma Symposium, and Howarth's ordered at least 60 from him in one order!

Walter's a great guy. I have a K14 and really like it. I'm saving my pennies for a new R-13 from him. Yes, gang, I still love Buffets even if I play Leblancs. I always like to have a good R-13 in my arsenal.

I love my K13 as well! The funny thing is that I can detect virtually no difference (appearance-wise) between it and my old HS**. Yet as soon as I played it I was struck by the ringing tone and the intonation in all registers. Now if I try to play the old HS** it feels uncomfortable and requires embouchure adjustment. One day I may just have to order a K14, just to satisfy my curiosity.

Mr. Grabner refaced my QS Lelandais very beautifully. In addition to sound, thre is a commonality to how certain artists' facings feel. I have always felt Mr. Grabner's facings had a sort of "spring" to them, a wonderful feel of potential energy ... hard to describe. Like standing on a diving board. So this isn't a Zinner thing ... it's in the curve itself. Always the feeling of a spongy energy to his work.
