Well I hope y'all's July Fourth concerts went well. Ours was almost a disaster. The temp. was in the upper 90s (F.) with heat radiating from the concrete below us and no wind. Our director almost completely collapsed from the heat and was hauled away in an ambulance after the third piece. Fortunately our 1st Alto jumped up and took the baton and bravely tried to get us through the rest of the show. Did a good job for a man who hadn't directed a band in many, many years. This brings to a point we should all get familier with the baton and directors scores if you play in a band. Not only will you be more valuable in an emergency situation, but you will experience what the director goes through and have more respect for what he/she does up there on that little box.

I was a bit worried about our director too, Willie, but he hung in there just great for a hot, central Texas day.
We performed two concerts--one at 9:00 AM in the plaza downtown before, during and after the parade, then later we performed with the community chorus in the park before the fireworks. It was my swan song as I am moving in a few weeks.
BTW, where are located Willie, down the road in Luckenbach?

I WISH I was in Luckenbach. Our band is in Alvin, just south of Houston with incredible humidity. Plus our evening concerts in the courtyard are sometimes accompanied with salt grass mosquitos which I've inhaled a few times at the breath marks.

Well gee whiz Willie. I'm just down I - 10 in New Braunfels. The mosquitos have been pretty thick around these parts, but not as bad as you describe them in Alvin.
