The Clarinet BBoard

I have placed several orders for clarinet-related gear from Omar Henderson since I discovered his site through this BB.
On my last purchase, I ordered (among other things) one of the Black Legend swabs, another of which my daughter has been using for the better part of a year. I knew they were a good quality, and the design allowed them to pass easily through the upper joint of the clarinet without getting caught on the register vent tube, unlike the traditional Bufffet cotton swabs I had ben using for ages.
Anyways, the protective coating on the weight began peeling off after only a few days' use of the new swab. I called the Doc's toll-free number to let him know what was happening, just in case he had received a bad production run from the factory. Apparently this is only the second swab in five years that has shown any problems at all, and he proomised to shipp me a new one via first-class mail the next day. He also sent me a nice e-mail, apologizing for the problem I had experienced.
In a time where so many merchants really do little or nothing to take care of their customers, I hust wanted weveryone to know what a pleasure it is to deal with a person of integrity and service, such as Doc Henderson. Thanks again!!

Thank you for the kind words. As with all of my products I take personal responsibility because I cut, attach weights, and dip the cords myself and the swabs are cut and sewn by senior ladies in my wife's quilt guild for extra "pin" money. The "factory" is a cottage industry.

Let me also chime in on the commendations for "the Doctor." I've been using Doc's products for years (swabs, bore oil, cork grease, key oil, cleaning/polishing supplies, mouthpiece bags, etc.) and recommend them to all my colleagues and students.
I love his regular cork grease...I buy many of them and hand out to students all the time, and the mouthpiece cleaning solution is great. I wish my preferred music stores out here would stock his stuff!

I'll chime in and pat Doc on the back, too. I got a box of several of his products in the mail last week and have been using it on my clarinets with great success this weekend. I just finished cleaning a batch of several mouthpieces with his cleaner and they came out looking like new! Bravo, Doc! Eu

my experiences have also been all positive. being in new zealand, postage can be substantial and place some items out of reach. Omar charges actual costs and posts promptly.
my silk swab is over 2yrs old and showing no wear. i wonder how long it will last.
steadfastness stands higher than any success

Ditto wanted to chime in myself! tried out the doctors barrel: creates a lot of sound equivalent to a backun barrel (without the wood sophistication) and creates a brighter sound as discussed previously. still awesome to play with.
Used the doctors cork restore, and that too is an awesome product. takes years off the gunk stored in the cork. excellent product for a fitting title of dr.'s clarinet products.

Ditto for here in Italy. Great products. Reasonable p&p.

Doc is THE MAN. Here in NYC all the professional players and their students use Omar's products. If they don't they are shot on the spot (joke).
Keep up the good work Omar, and be well,

Another big thank you to Omar for providing a source of Gonzalez F.O.F. reeds, especially since Davie Cane has gone out of business. I've ordered several different products from his website and have found his products and service to be stellar.

.... in the middle of a concert needed to "swab out".... had more than enough time... used the nice pull through from XXXXXXXX, but the weight wouldn't get past the reg tube... tried and tried and tried (as well as weight not being heavy enough, it had an annoying knot on end, and the material the "leash" was made of would stick to the wet bore). In the end i never got to swab out... had to give in and get back to playing as my 30 bars rest was up.
I have had this experience (or a similar one) with swabs from a number of sources (Tim Clark, Reeds Aus, Wurlitzer, Yamaha, Buffet)- but NEVER with a swab from BG or my Doctor's swab. Actually, one of my favourite swabs now is from Wurlitzer, with a BG weight/leash sewed on. These days the Drs swab is the only one i will bother trying to use in performance situations.

Count me in as a fan of the Doctor. My needs are minor - cork grease, a swab, some reeds now and then. But every time I have placed an order the service has been excellent - as if I were a regular, high-paying customer. The cork grease, swab, and mouthpiece cleaner are excellent products - unavailable elsewhere. He provides a real service at a very fair price.

I am another happy customer of the Doctor. I only ordered a few things and he got back to me with a very pleasant E-mail as to when they would be shipped. I will not hesitate to go to him again.
And, after reading his posts here, a really first-class person. We are lucky to have such quality people helping those of us who choose to ruin our lives by playing the clarinet. (:)
