We discovered two dents/grooves in the rails of my daughter's VD m30 mouthpiece. We can't figure out how it happened - it looks like the kind of mark you get in wood when you write on it - two grooves about an 1/8 of an inch long parallel to the rails near the tip - as if it was wedged onto something, but it doesn't match anything on the ligature or the MP cap, or any of the edges on her case (I thought maybe the case lid fell on the mouthpiece at some point). Besides the mystery of how it happened is the question of what, if anything, can be done. It affects the tone - her teacher found the damage while trying to figure out why her reed sounded strange. She mentioned the possiblity of refacing. What does it cost to reface relative to the ~$65 cost of the mp? How do you find someone to do it, how long does it take? She has an audition in less than two weeks.

My guess from the decription is that it's ligature damage. Normally, it costs more than $65 to have a mouthpiece refaced, but it sounds like an easy fix. Please write me offline, and I'll do it for free.
