Alright, I burnt my finger, now what?

Well i burnt the tip my index finger last week, and just today the wound opened up (so more like a cut now).... so i couldnt practice today. I have an audition for the local youth orchestra (i was part of it for the past 2 years, but im trying to move up to the senior devision) on Saturday, that leaves me tmr and a bit of saturday to practice. The thing is, what if my finger doesn't heal enough for the audition? :S

there is a product usually called 'liquid bandage'- spray and tube form. you put it on and it heals faster than anything I have seen. tomorrow might be close.
I have also seen rubber glove 'fingers'. latex tubes to put your finger in. I have seen in office supply stores for handling large amounts of papers without paper cuts. maybe you can use this for the performance.
good luck

I agree. Sometimes it's called new skin or something like that. I know a piano player who practices so much she lives on the stuff. Hopefully that'll help.
The pannel should be fairly forgiving, especially since they already know you. If it's still really painful, you can explain that... but don't mention it hindered your practice, just say it hurts.
Don't worry about the practicing, worry about healing. If you're this close to the audition, you already know the music.

The smooth glove (or a finger cut from one) sounds good if you can stand the pain. I recently found that a conventional band aid allowed air to leak out of the "covered" tone hole --so that's probably not a good solution.

big box stores like Home Depot carry boxes of 100-latex and vinyl gloves.

Good luck.

I got my hand caught in a car window last night (electronic/automatic) as the driver was raising it (my wife, by the way). Man, did that hurt! And tomorrow I'm supposed to perform in the pit for Cosi.

Seems to be OK today - but you never know what fate will send you way.

Hope your burn heals soon.

I would reccomend some polysporin and a band-aide. Also, avoid burning the same finger or any others before the audition! ;)
