My new bonade inverted ligature is now scratching my mouthpiece :(
What is the remedy?

This is not uncommon with metal ligs. To prevent scratches, you can place a piece of tape on the mouthpiece where it is getting scratched. You can use electrical tape (which has a heavy glue) or masking tape (pre-colored or you can color white tape with black marker for aesthetic reasons).

I've also had issues with the Bonade ligature. Ok, so you have to bend it just to get it to work until it bends out of shape again, and it scratches the hell out of your mouthpiece to boot.
Two MUCH better options with the "same" design principle are the Vandoren Optimum (with the wavey plate) and the Vandoren Leather (with the metal plate).
Forget the now cheaply made Bonades.

I have filed the sharp projections, on both kinds. There is less problem with the regular style. After many trials of numerous kinds, I am playing a Luyben (plastic). One can also make a ligature with a small piece of velcro, about 1 inch by 3 inches. Separate the two materials, then cut about 1 inch off the sticky one and place the soft piece, soft face out, over the reed and secure it on each side with the sticky one wound around from the back of the mouthpiece and overlapping the soft one on each side. It can then be readily adjusted for tightness im holding the reed in place. The cost is a few cents. I make them for friends, some of whom now use nothing else.

You can put the lig on a dowel or a metal mandrel and bend the screw points so they are rounded to fit the mouthpiece, you can put a thin clear mouthpiece patch on the back of the mouthpiece or you can line the inside of the lig with very thin leather. All of these wil work if you want to do it.

When I replace my ligature with a new one, I take a small file and file the inside edges of both sides on the top of the ligature just beneath the screws. I take off just the smallest amount because I find it's not the shape of the ligature that causes this, it's the fact the edges I'm talking about are actually rather sharp and just need a little dulling. This does not change the ligature's feel for me in any way, just keeps my mouthpiece safer

I have an 30 yr old Bonade lig that still works without making marks on my mpc. A recent model that I tried was not so kind and left some ugly scratches--it went to the trash bin. I would use the older Bonade if it were not for the constant adjustment hassels--which is why I use the Optimum Lig with the "wavy" (I call ot parallel rail) insert. It plays the same as the older Bonade but WITHOUT the need to carry the needle-nose pliers as it never bends with use.
BTW--scratchs to the mpc?? So what as long as the rails and baffle are left untouched. They are just cosmetic and not usually noticed by your audience. And most auditions are behind closed screens so no paranoia necessary there. It is always good to remember that it's not how glamorous your mpc is, it is whats inside that counts. Cast a blind eye on its minor imperfections and relish the harmonious relationship you can enjoy together "As Time Goes Bye".

Unfortunately, as far as I know, there is nothing you can do about the scratches that the ligature caused.

More mouthpieces have been disfigured by those damn Bonade inverted ligatures. Kaspar ligatures are even worse!
Light scratches can be buffed out but usually you buff out the makers mark as well.
But I still haven't found a ligature that works better for me than the Bonade inverted silver plated model.
So I glued thin teflon strips to the rough edges. No more scratches and virtually no effect on the sound.

You guys go through a lot of trouble.
Floral tape. That's all. Pennies at your local florist. No need to constantly replace or anything - it has the "sticky" qualities of tape so it doesn't budge, without being overly sticky and causing problems.
One of my instructors uses a mouthpiece patch on the backside of the mpc.
Another one says that it's his mouthpiece - and he doesn't need it to look pretty, he needs it to sound good - which is not affected by a few little cosmetic scratches.
I still like my mouthpiece to be perfect - so a little floral tape and all's good.

Foral tape probably has to be replaced often and it is not going to stay on unless you wrap it all the way around.
with teflon the ligature slides on and off easily.
I find mouthpiece patches, even the thin clear ones, make it difficult to adjust the ligature.
Has anyone tried PDA screen protectors? You can cut them to the right size and they look great and don't grab the ligature.
