 BB grows toward 25000 posts
Author: Arnold the basset hornist

Hello,

did you notice it? This BB is aproaching carry 25000 post (minus those that had to be deleted, e.g. commercial ones).
The special thing is, you can search through all these textes.
If you are interested but not familiar in <a href=http://www.sneezy.org/clarinet/BBoard/search.html><b>Search</b>ing <b>the Forum</b></a> - to "button" at the upper right of the thread index - take the chance an try it. If you "open the link in a new window" (perhaps right mouse button) you can still continue reading this message.
For example, you can search for <b>what is a basset horn discribed , Arnold</b> (didn't <i>beejay</i> ask for it?) and find my answer, a post including all the listed words - note my wrong spelling of d<b>e</b>scribed.
Or search for <b>inserting links pictures</b> to learn from Mark, to do this in your text.
Finally, you can search for <b>basset horn -"Arnold the basset hornist"</b> to check, what people <u>except me</u> were talking about basset horns. But note, a sequence like "<i>please help, Arnold the basset hornist</i>" will be filtered off, too.

Enjoy searching,

Arnold, the basset hornist

Thanks for that, Arnold. How do you get the bold text in a message? And all those underlines, italics and so on?

-------
by including the proper html:
<B><b>Bold</b></B>, etc. right in the message.

So I should be able to do <b>bold</b>, <i>italic</i>, <u>underlined</u> and <big>big text</big>. How about pictures?

I could have some fun!

Hello Eoin,

there are a lot more text style switches in HTML. If you're looking for a quick reference (for experts), try <a href=http://www.cc.ukans.edu/~acs/docs/other/HTML_quick.shtml>this</a> or view the source code in your navigator resp. explorer (control-U ?).
'turn on' generally is a key letter or key word within <b><</b> and <b>></b>, 'turn off' is the same key preceeded by a slash.
Interesting options are:
<b> ... </b>
<i> ... </i>
<u> ... </u>
<a href=<i>address</i>><i>name</i></a>
<img src=<i>address</i>>
<pre> ... </pre>
<tt> ... </tt>
use the following ones only if you really need them (or people think your are validity-addicted):
<blink> ... </blink>
<font color="#ff0000"> ... </font>

To check the effects in a simple way, save any HTML page to a file, edit it with a simple text editor, insert your test anywhere between <b><body></b> and <b></body></b> and open this modified file with your navigator or exporer - the relative links will be lost (point to nowhere), off course.

Is this your new clarinet? :-)

P.S. Sorry, I cannot offer a picture of my 'baby' (clarinet pitched in high G with 3 keys, 4 simple and 4 double finger holes).

That was just an experiment. I'll confine my pictures to clarinet-related pictures from now on. I don't want to start another "Mark, why can't we discuss guinea pigs on your bulletin board?" thread. :^)

Just because you <B>can</b> doesn't mean you <b>should</b> :^) The <font color=red size=+3><blink>BLINK</blink></font> tag should be relegated to the bit bucket permanently!

A hint:
Use pictures judiciously - it increases the download time of a posting in direct proportion to how fast it can be transferred from your site to someone's browser.

Hey, whadda cute rodent! Ain't no pictures of me. They don't treat me that good here. They don't give me no nice food. I gotta liberate it. I shouldn'ta mouthed off about likin' the clarinet, 'cause Lelia don't appreciate me. She caught me in the slammer an' deported me.

But I come back, 'cause I wanna listen. Now, I don't wanna live in no stinkin' slammer, like that hamster, but if any of ya wanna give some attic space to a nice big handsome long-tailed rat who'd love to listen to ya squeal an' squeak, 'specially if yer a beginner (more squeaks!!!), can I move in with ya? An' bring some girlfriends? An' a few dozen sons and daughters so's I can teach 'em all about the clarinet? On account of, I think I better not plan on stayin' here.

Just going back to the topic, congratulations Mark, and everyone else on the team that does all the work in keeping the clarinet BBoard alive. I have learnt alot from this BBoard as well as html figures - thanks alot.
P.S. To whoever said that we shouldn't begin to go into guinea pig topics on the BBoard, I agree with you - Don't even go there.
