Hi,
Maybe this is a simple question... and excuse me if my terminology if off the mark at times.
I now have a Selmer CT and a Selmer Signet Special. Both used, obviously. Both are in very good condition. And they both sound very good - to my ear, anyway.
With the Signet I can run up and down, hitting every note without difficulty - even those high ones. It's quite easy to play, in fact.
With the CT it's more work. Not so much with the lower range but the much higher range.
For me the question is why? I know they are different designs, so what has to change to make the CT as easy. Just working on it or changes in the: mouthpiece, the reeds, the barrel?
I've tried a couple of MP's on the CT and different reeds. I used the same MP and reed in my test above.

Hi Paul, {FWIW} I just put a post on the mouthpiece thread [close here], re my "dark" cls, an old Selmer A and a Signet 100. I also have a 1954 CT which I regard as a "jazz" horn which has a brighter tone character, even with my "darker" mps. Don

Selmer CT should play better than a Selmer Signet Special. I guess the CT has some micro leaks on the top of UJ and/or the bridge key is out of adjustment. You might have a leak between the barrel and the UJ if the tenon cork is too compressed or worn.

I would have thought that.
It was checked over when purchased but I guess I need to do some testing to see if I can find the problem. Certainly all the joints look good and feel tight. The pads all look good. Key adjustment - hmmm.
And I'd been thinking it was the mouthpiece - maybe not.
