Is there a different kind of GC Evolution reeds?
I was given a Duo Pack of Grand Concert Select Evolution reeds last year which had a engraved logo, long vamp and the cut is similar to Gonzalez or V12 (slightly flatter curve). Overall it has a very luxurious looking. It plays wonderfully.
Today I bought a duo pack of GC Evolution. But, the reed look very differently! First, the blank seems slightly thinner, and vamp is shorter and is cut with a pronounce U shape. On the back of the reed, the logo is stamped “GC Evolution”.
They do play fairly similarly. Or lets say, less playing difference than appearance. However, I would like to know if Rico have changed their design over the past year, or the more “luxurious” one I first had is their special edition.
Has anyone came across the difference?
Many thanks!

I don't know any particulars, but I can tell you that Rico is and has been changing their products little by little for a many years. However they are still marketed as the same products. These are not big things but many small changes over the years.

I just bought a box of Rico Grand Concert Select Thick Blank #3
Some of the blanks are filed and some are not...I thought all Rico Thick Blanks were filed.
They seem pretty much the same and most are working out, but it is kind of annoying.
I'm also using the new Rico Reserve #3...they're OK and the cane does seem different maybe better.
I've received a couple free packs of Ricos and thay were both super reeds...if only every reed made was so good!

Geezer- I purchased some of the GC Thick blank last summer and had the same experience. Half were filed, half not. I emailed their customer service dept to find out what the deal was and they did not even get back to me. I guess they don't care enough to please a potential customer. Many played quite nicely, but if their quality contol and customer service is that poor, I don't know what to say.

The early GC Evo I bought were stamped in dark blue on the back and were cut from a thin blank. The newer ones I have are stamped in brown and are much thicker. They don't seem to play as well, for me.

A "filed" clarinet reed is one in which the remaining bark at just the beginning of the vamp is filed off.
But everyone knows that...right? If this is a good thing or not is a question, but they look neater!
