can anyone tell me how to get hold of white leather Glotin clarinet pads? they're frequently recomended on this forum. I'm in the UK and have had no joy finding a source here so far. i guess importing them would be an option if there's no UK supplier. I've a German bore cl. Wurlitzer in need of a repad.

Try Howarth in London (ask for John Steward) - I know we use white leather Glotin pads on oboes and bassoons and brown leather ones on clarinets, so maybe they can make up a set of white leather ones if you give them the measurements you need (measure the internal cup diameters).

you can order directly from glotin.
they will mail you a catalog if you ask. but IMO other than pads, their products are not stellar.

Here's their website http://www.glotin.fr
But the pads page doesn't give away much.

Rigotti pads are great - you can do mail order from their factory in the Var.

hi Nick
do you know a website address or some contact details? i'm really looking for white leather pads because it's a German clarinet and that's what they normally use.
thanks.

...contact me offline via email (click on my name), I might have a source of white goat leather pads for German clarinets.... (can't do online because of forum rules)

i sent them an email yesterday (in English!?) so hopefully they'll get back to me soonish. part of my problem is that i have quite thick soft pads on my Cl. Wurlitzer at present and they are too thick for the instrument – the rings do not close properly, and they don’t seal the tone hole on the outer edge. my repair man has had a good inspection and has confirmed that the pads are too thick. I believe the Glotin pads aren’t as thick as the German pads that seem to be often used. I do find it strange that a German clarinet can’t take typical German pads though. or maybe they're a bit thicker than normal?

Remind me again - is your Cl.Wurlitzer a Boehm or Oehler system?
Glotin also make pads of various thicknesses, so you can specify the thickness you need. 3mm is a standard thickness for leather pads and should be adequate for most applications - if they're too thin, use more shellac behind them.

it's a german bore Boehm system. my repair man wants to remove the existing pads first before ordering a new set to make sure he gets the right sizes. i think the existing pads are just too thick or maybe too much shellac was used?
