I frankly admit I am a victim of Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Just so that you know...
I keep a working mouthpiece and at least one working reed in each case. Now lately, when getting one of the less used clarinets out for playing, I noticed that all pre-used, broken-in reeds stored in these cases are simply junk - they'd squeak, sqwawk, howl and whatnot, but they can't be played normally any more.

Seems like more than one set of reeds is just money thrown out of the window.
