I was looking at my friends RC clarinet that he plays which has a sn of 160000's which baffled me when i asked him whether it was tuned at 444 or 440. I always presumed that RC clarinets had the F prefix in the sn to indicate that they were made for European players specifically. So what's the deal? Did Buffet produce RC clarinets for American players too? It doesn't make sense because why sell both the R13 and the RC if they're pitched similarly in the U.S.?

I have a Buffet RC, serial number 161XXX without an F prefix. It plays beautifully!!! There are two barrels....a 66 mm for tuning A=440 and a shorter 64 mm barrel for European tuning, A=442.

Oh so i guess the differnece was just the barrel length provided with the clarinet.

Guy Chadash says the only difference between "F" and "non-F" Buffets is the barrel length.
