 bass clarinet- help!
Author: Eilidh

I recently bought a Noblet wooden bass clarinet to low Eb. Its serial number is 579. I'm trying to find the age of the instrument. Any help would be much apprecitated!

Pardon me for butting in (especially as I don't have the answer to your very reasonable question), but your subject line makes it seem as if you have a crucial and urgent problem that needs immediate attention from the readers of this BB. But I don't think that's the case here.

I'll shut up now. Guess I drank too much coffee this morning.

I hope your Noblet, whatever its age, plays well.

There aren't any 3-figure serial numbers for basses listed here http://www.saxmaniax.com/snclarinet.htm#SNNoblet, maybe one of the numbers on your bass has been obliterated or not stamped well enough.

Hi Eilidh - like Good F[r]iend, Dave S, even after looking on Saxmaniax.com, which has Leblanc-Noblet history and serial #'s, all I can say is yours is "early". I suggest you read this history which may give you dating hints. Perhaps some Nob B C owners can help you. Luck, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

looking on the website you recommended (thanks!) the crest it has on it is the Noblet 45 one...which is listed as a Bb clarinet, not a bass. Looked at the serial number again, and it defenitely only has 3 digits. Should i be worried?

Anyone contemplating playing the Bass clarinet has much need to worry.
