  Noblet Alto/Bass clarinets

What are the differences between the Leblanc and Noblet
lines of wood alto/bass clarinets ? My inquiry is more
directed in the area of sound quality .
Are the Leblanc instruments using a better quality of
wood? Is the scale better ? What ??
Any information to clarify things is greatly appreciat-
ed .

I owned a Noblet bass clarinet in college and played it for four years. Upon leaving college (and going into the Navy)my Noblet was bought by the clarinet instructor, the very well-respected Dr. Norman Heim, so I guess it must have been a pretty good horn. I've also owned two Leblanc basses, neither of which was bad but neither of which was particularly good. I don't believe that generally there's much difference in construction or playing qualities between the Leblanc and Noblet basses, but I would opine that, although they're pretty decent instruments, they're all a cut below the best Selmer (model 37) and Buffet (model 1193-2) basses. I don't have any experience with alto clarinets, so I can't speak to those.
