Wow. Very cool! (just tried it out, literally 2 minutes ago. fun stuff!) I think though, maybe a synthesis of your two ideas; using cork and this design, and perhaps shaping the inside of the upper-side concave... (definitely something I'll be trying soon!) Super kudos to you, Ben!

It's a Cyber Tool. Oboists get one of their own while we humble single-reeders still have to wait for one with integrated reed clipper. Maybe we should create a wishlist and then ask...

I've only seen the folding Graf reed knife before - which was a single blade.
But this one with two blades! That'll fit much better in my oboe tool pouch!
Looks like I'm going to part with more money!

Good Idea! I take the foam pencil cushion gippers and cut them. I can get at least 3 out of every foam gripper and one box of them will last a lifetime. You also have a choice of colors.

Yes, very innovative, however I have found something that may be of interest and requires absolutely nothing. Walking in the endless aisles o the worlds largest retailer I spied something which aroused interest. Why? Because it looked like pads for some kind of wind instrument. Perhaps as many as 50 of different sizes on a card.
They were not, but were pad sized(of all small sizes) designed to keep lamps from floating around on tables and things. They come in various thicknesses and they have adhesive already on them.
No scissors, no glue, absolutely without any care.
They fit right under the thumbrest and give a substantial amount of relief to the discomfort of the clarinet on the thumb, and they stay there for a long time.
If they happen to slip or something, just put another on.
But I do like the red on the black, very cute indeed

the thumbrest cushion only does half the job - it cushions the thumb rest, but the body of the clarinet is still hard. They work with Altos and Basses that are held vertically, but with a Bb clarinet that is held more horizontally they simply ain't comfy enough for me (see sherman's suggestion).

I've been doing basically the same thing with alto and bass clarinet and saxophone thumbrests/thumbhooks for years, but using strips of leather cut out from discarded shoes instead of the foam material. Not to take anything away from Ben's innovation, of course!
