 Bill Crow War Stories
Author: Ken Shaw 2017
Date:   2007-03-27 19:44

Bill Crow, who wrote the fascinating Benny Goodman memoir, also writes a monthly column for Local 802 (NYC) called Bill Crow's Band Room, on line at http://www.local802afm.org/publication_search.cfm?xSubject=95338066

It's a good collection of news and war stories by and about performers.

Ken Shaw

Also, he has 2 books out:

"From Birdland to Broadway" (an autobiographical account of his life in jazz, full of detailed reminiscences about the music business, the personalities, the gigs, etc etc etc), and "Jazz Anecdotes" (a wonderful collection of funny, wry, sad, revealing anecdotes, quips, one-liners etc. including a lot of material from his columns that Ken links to above).

Both books are tremendously entertaining as well as wonderful expositions and chronicles of jazz and jazz musicians.

They were published in the US by Oxford University Press; hopefully they're still in print (!?), because if you love jazz, you gotta have these books.

Definitely recommended!!
