I was looking in the catalogues at Fobes barrels. I am very familiar with Clark's great mouthpieces, but have not played his barrels. Can anyone who is familiar with these give me your thoughts on them. How do they play for compared to Moennig or Chadash barrels?

I swear by my Fobes barrel. I tried both Moennig and Chadash for about 2 months each before finally deciding on the Fobes. Perhaps it's more of a personal preference for the sound I envisioned myself producing.

I use a Fobes Eb barrel that I find superior to the stock Yamaha 661. It has a "sweeter" sound and the altissimo is much more stable; no iffy notes anymore all the way to A. If I practice regularly I can pop a double C, which I never, ever did on the stock Yamaha. The throat tones are slightly clearer, and the lowest notes project better. I can't really judge the intonation, since I've never had problems on this horn.

I play one also. I love the "long" notes on the instrument. They're huge and warm sounding. My throat tones are also a bit warmer now as well. There isn't so much of a difference as I go over the break. I LOVE the barrel!
