no cracks, no obvious problems,
low pitch high pitch
restored/Plays great $450 150
works $350 100
needs pads, etc $300 50
needs the works $250 50
just an opinion, based on eBay prices, which for these I have not followed in two years. Learn how to search old and new auctions and follow Buffet and Selmar auctions (which are the same quality but go for a little less) and you will know more in a couple months.

I've two old Buffet instruments. One is circa 1937/38 and the A clarinet is circa 1915. Both are splendid in every possible way, having been professionally overhauled most expertly. Check for cracks...there probably won't be any.
Take a look at the bore. It should be very clear and have a clean sheen to it. Check the intonation, of course, and the response of the throat tones. All-in-all, I have played the new and the old, and with my mouthpiece (Borbeck 13), Spriggs ligature and some great Morre reeds (or Vandoren V12's), I prefer the older instruments, hands-down! I hope this has been of some help to you. Sincerely, ET
PS regarding the newer Buffet's I have found those in the early 100,000 serial number range to be quite exceptional.
I was told by an close associate and apprentice to the Ann Arbor Kaspar that Buffets before 30,000 serial number were generally OK. ET
