Hi again!!!

Don't worry, i'm not going to ask everyones worst key signature this time (Mines Concert C# Major) oops!!!

Anyway, i have a few study books for the Clarinet and i am going through some of the pieces, but i have come to an extremely hard piece! It has a G# twice above the Top live of the staff. I will now explain in English, there is a G just above the Staff, but this one is the next octave up!

How do i play that Note?
Any help please!!!

Thanxs

The altissimo register goes all the way up to a C. G# is fingered as followed. (the way that I play it)
-Left Hand- thumb hole closed, register key open, first hole open, second and third closed,
-Right Hand- first hole closed, second and third holes open,
push key between second and third hole, and with
your right hand pinky finger push the Eb key, or if you have an auxillary clarinet you can use that.
To save you the trouble of having to post another question about fingering. If you buy the new Rubanks advanced method Vol. 1 for the clarinet, it has a fingering chart inside that goes up to double high C! This is where I used to get all of my fingerings from. There are more than one different fingerings for G# though, this is just the one that I use.
Sincerely,
Stephen

go to the fingering charts by Dr.Izen here on the board --click of study and then charts. He shows fingering all the way up to db -six above the line. I havn't tried playing that note. I don't want to hurt myself.

You can get fingerings for every note on the clarinet at the Woodwind Fingering Guide, which is hosted on the same computer as this discussion group. Its address is:

http://www.wfg.sneezy.org/

Even if you know the fingering, it is unlikely you will be able to play the really high notes without lots of practise, as they need a very well developed embouchure. You will also find that once you go beyond altissimo G (the one an octave above the stave) there are loads of alternatives, of which only some will work on your clarinet. You will have to experiment to try the best one for your instrument.

I have personally managed to play altissimo A, but I'm not advanced enough for the really high B flat, B natural and C. A professional clarinetist is expected to be able to reach this C as a matter of course (the one that sits on five ledger lines above the stave). Some modern clarinet works go even higher!

I tried playing my teacher's Buffet RC Vintage (I think!) and found the altissimo notes really easy, but I had to work much harder on the lower notes, so I'll stick to my E13.

Here's a simple way to get the high G# - just overblow a high D.

I play an e-12 (it is not the best horn) but I can go right up on the scale, from low low E to the highest C without any trouble.
