I recently realized my barrel cracked in my Governor's School audition back in the first week of February. I was taking the barrel off to wipe off the spit and I forced it back on.(assuming it cracked then) The rings are fitted well and the crack is nearly invisible, but still visible. Since then, my left hand notes have been flat(usually the left hand notes are sharp i hear). I can adjust them easily but I don't like having to adjust so much. Before this, my left hand notes were sharp. Now I've read there is no point in pinning a barrel if the rings are on tight(same for bell) so can this be glued? If so, can I glue this(superglue) or should I take it to the tech and have him do it for me? By fixing the barrel, will my notes go sharp again? If it doesn't, I'm looking right now at the Ridenour Ivorlone Barrels. Are they good choices? I play a Selmer Paris Omega (.570" bore) My barrel is a 66.5 and the mouthpiece a C85-120 with FOF 3.0

Alrighty...if this is a new clarinet I would exchange the barrel...I had this problem last month.... if its a old clarinet... I would get it glued to prevent the crack from getting bigger. After a while you can always buy a new and improve barrel for better sound anyway.

If it isn't too expensive, have the old barrel fixed. Get an estimate of the costs. Once you get it back from the tech, contact one of the barrel makers who sponsor this site: Walter Grabner, Morrie Backun, Allan Segall, etc. Use the links to the right of this board, and shop around a little. The folks will be happy to make a barrel to your exact specifications, custom for your particular instrument. Looking at some of the photos of their work, some of them are true artists. Plus, you will often get a better, more in-tune sound using the new barrel.

I bought one of Tom's barrels and have been very happy with it. It seemed to open up the sound on both my clarinet A (LeBlanc) and Bb (Buffet). For the price I think you would be happy with it if you decide to buy a new one.
