I recently picked up a pair of clarinets (A, Bb) by LeBlanc, marked "300" on both joints. I can't see any such at the LeBlanc web site. Anyone know anything about these instruments? Thanks

My guess is that they are actually marked L300 on both joints. The L300 comes from a line of clarinets Leblanc started in the 1970's (L7, L70, L27, L200, L300 and a quick search turned up a couple of posts that say the line continued with the LX and the LX2000). When they were in production, they were generally Leblanc's top-of-the-line professional models. The information I have been able to pick up suggests that the L7 ran into 1978. Leblanc often changed models frequently, however, so my best guess would be that yours dates from sometime in the 1980's. The only serial number list I have seen for Leblanc's ends with 1984. If yours has a serial number higher than 57480, it was made sometime after that. I think the L300 was fairly short-lived but was a good-quality horn.
If you do have L300's, use the search function for this site to search for "L300" (without the quotes) both on the bulletin board and the Klarinet Mailing List Archives. You'll get alot of hits, some with useful information, some perhaps not. Also, for posts about the L7, et. al. line, try "L7 L27" without the quotes.

I use a L300. It was Leblanc's Pro line in the 80's my serial # starts with 55 and I know it was made 1984. I love the sound and tone and going over the register break is a dream. I find the keys very comfortable also. From what I can gather many pros thought it lacked power & projection.
From my own experience with the model I would tell you watch the tuning in the throat register (the A4 especially) its on the money, which is great if your in a WW quint but not so if your entire clarinet section is always 20 to 40 cents sharp. The rest of the horn seems pitched a bit sharp but has a very even scale. I found that a close mp like vand m13, and I recently got a Grabner Chicago, works great. I also use a Backun 66 barrel. Enjoy
