Hello clarineters!
anyone else here attempting the International Clarinet Association's young artist competition? i am, and i have been practicing like a madperson. i make my recording in just over a week.
just wondering...

Good luck, young person. I am planning to make a recording for the ICA Orchestra Audition contest. I am too old to be "young". Keep practicing like mad, and have fun.

I'll try out for some competition one day. Maybe one day I'll audition for a college and go for a degree too. Hopefully. But all in due time.

well i made my recording last night.
i listened to it just now.
i guess you are always your own worst critic. i think my tape has too many flaws to make it into the semi-finalist round, but i also think that this experience has made me a much stronger player. musically, i have matured a great deal. i can now play up to the altissimo A without freaking out, and playing like an opera singer or in the "french style" makes more sense. i will mail if off tomorrow and then go on with my life. and on to my next challenge: getting good enough to win a job on a cruise ship. (any pearls of wisdom?)
on the up side, i am now now no longer a slave to Rossini, Persichetti, and Widor.

That's really cool that you are doing it this year. I was going to cause I worked on the Parable last semester and I really loved performing it. The problems was I had some unexpected problems arise and screwed up my practice schedual for a week and I wasn't able to play that whole week. So in the end I decided it was best to save my money for new music and reeds and other stuff :D. Next year will be a different story. By the way did you write your own cadenza for the Rossini? I wrote one, kind of stole some of my teachers ideas but still made it my own. Also I'm having the worse time with that lick at the end right before the candenza section with all that stuff around the high F-A range, how'd that go for you? Also I love the Widor, it's now one of my personal favorites.
