Lately, some of the board members have contributed with examples of their own playing. Tonight on the Swedish radio there was a re-broadcast of a live concert I was in together with two friends, playing Schumann and Brahms that I would like to share with you. We play on somewhat contemporary instruments. The piano is a French Èrard grand piano from the 1880th. I play a Lefévre clarinet with 13 keys and two rings from mid-late 19th century. The cellist is using gut strings.
The program is:
1. Robert Schumann: Fantasy pieces op. 73.
2. Johannes Brahms: Cello sonata no. 1 e-minor.
3. Robert Schumann: Papillons, 12 pieces for piano.
4. Johannes Brahms: Clarinet trio a-minor.
The link stays for 30 days. The title is “P2 Live Klassiskt” and the 1st half is marked: “torsdag 15 mars 2007 19:30.” The 2nd half is marked “torsdag 15 mars 2007 20:30.”

Very nice performance. I will play Schumann at my final college exam second week after easter. I have to say that I haven't heard many good version of Schumann but this was very good. Does it take long time to learn to play on period clarinet? I see that you play with the Icelandic clarinetist Hermann Stefánsson in the Kungliga Filharmonikerna. I'm Icelandic but I think I've only see Hermann play one time in Iceland and then he performed Weber clarinet concerto no.2 and Debussy Premiér Rapshody with the Icelandic symphony orchestra in the horrible Cinmea theater Háskólabíó but fortunatly they are building a Concerthouse here in Reykjavík which will be opened I think in autumn 2009 after 40 years of fighting for it.

Sounds great, it is nice to hear you play period instrument. I have to say that you sound quite "modern" to me and if you woudl not have told us about the instrument I would not have noticed anything special. On the other hand, I love the sound of the lower notes on the cello with gut strings, so much warmer. I am less enamoured with the piano, it just can't seem to convey as much of a dynamic/color range as a modern instrument.
Anyway, a fine performane by all acounts.

Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed your smooooooth playing.
I am wondering if that is a mark of a period clarinet such as you were playing. Is it easier to play a good legato than on a modern instrument?
