Our band is playing Armenian Dances, Part I by Alfred Reed for a performance soon, but I was wondering if you guys could help me out with a question I had for a trill fingering. On the first part, in measure 317 (in the Allegro vivo con fuoco section) there is a trill from a 3rd octave B to a C# above it. I have been trying to trill with the bottom two side keys, but it's too flat for practical uses. Do you guys have any ideas on what fingering would be good? Thanks

Use the 3rd side key on the right side. That is the standard fingering for that trill.

When I tried that fingering, it was really unstable and hard to sustain a tone. Does that make sense what I just tried to explain? It's like when you try to reach high altissimo notes and it drops down... that's what it's like. Any other ideas or any idea on how to stabilize that note?

Try both of these options:
1. Play the B5 and trill to C#6 by adding the throat G# key.
2. Play the B5 and trill to C#6 by removing the thumb and register key.
BTW - using the bottom 2 right side keys produces a C#6 which is flat. The other suggestion (using the 3rd right side key) produces a C#6 which is often weak and unstable.

When I was in high school, the local community orchestra played
Capriccio Espagnol. There was not a satisfactory A instrument
available in our little town, so I had to transpose the clarinet part.
This fingering was handy: play a 4th space D and raise the 3rd finger
of the left hand. This gives the B. Trill to the C# with the 4th finger of
the right hand. In other words, trill from 4th line D to the E above, but
keep the 3rd finger of the LH raised. Other fingerings in this
(underused) harmonic series are occasionally useful as well.

Playing the 5th harmonic series B is a good idea. However, adding the left pinky F#/C# key produces a more satisfactory B5.
TR o x x / x x x F#/C#
Then, trill the C#6 by using the 3rd finger of the right hand ...GBK
