Just to tell about my experience with a squawking clarinet. I have an old Lamarie wood clarinet that I just love playing and for no good reason, it starting squawking. I have been working on it for about 2 weeks, trying to figure out why it starting squawking and I finally figured it out. It never occured to me to switch barrels because even though the barrel had a crack since I got it, it worked fine with the crack. Finally I decided to switch barrels and wahlah, the squawking is finally gone! Just to let anyone else out there who might be having a problem with squawking, check for cracks.

Major leaks near the mouthpiece can cause squeaks...even a poorly fitting barrel socket (where the mouthpiece joins the socket or the barrel joins the upper joint) can produce the little demons.

Or, to paraphrase a famous bumper sticker:

If your mouthpiece or a barrel is a-rockin
 Squeaks can come knockin'
