For some history, read up in Brymer, pg 151 in particular. Its quite possible some of the more recent clar books, Lawson?, Groves Dict. Langwill?? [Mark] may help you. Have you searched via the Internet servers for web-sites? Don

Present one is Michel Arrignon(pronunciates:mishelle ariniyon in English). He is one of RICO grand concert reed advisors. I do not know his URL.
p.s. Paris Conservatoir teachers treat only premier prix pupil not also-runs(however good they may be).
Many Japanese student go there in vain.And French tonality is quite different from American.

He means that the Paris Conservatory only accepts the top prize-winning students, not the ones who come in second.
Whether or not that is a good thing is highly debatable.

Just kidding...we were discussing contest pieces recently in studio and how they used to use them in determing if you would graduate.
Honestly, I don't know what you get if you win first prize. =)

The premier prix is what you get when you LEAVE the Paris Conservatoire, not a competition to enter. What you 'win' is a piece of paper saying premier prix, as do all of your classmates who complete the program. In fact, you can no longer earn a premier prix in France - this was the name given to the diploma (roughly a master's degree) until a few years ago. Now it is called DFS (diplome de formation superieur).
