If you haven't already seen it, there's an interesting video of Luis Rossi in a live performance of the Mozart clarinet quintet on Youtube.

Luis is more than good! Super tone, elegant phrasing, etc.
The video is somewhat marred by the antics of the violist...he seemed to have ants in his pants. Maybe they could tie him down.

He remindes me a little bit of John McCaw. Did he study with him ? At least I know that he studied in England and plays a large bore clarinet.

It's good to know that someone like HIM is making clarinets. After hearing him perform, it leads me to believe that he knows what a clarinet SHOULD sound like, so I'd be more inclined to buy one from him.

I see what you mean about "Paganini jr." on violin. I was expecting his head to spin 180 degrees at some point there. "Is there an Exorcist in the house?".
Somewhat far afield of the topic, but does anyone know if Luis Rossi is related to the Italian Rossi family (now Brazilian) who owns the Rossi Firearms Company?

What a beautiful sound!
I assume that he's playing one his own clarinets.
I think he played 10-10s a while ago.
A truly great player.

Luis studied with Jack/John McCaw (a fellow NZer!), and it was Mr McCaw who encouraged him to start making instruments

Well I thought he played well in his Santiago office, and that was without a jittery violinist! After hearing his CD he´s on my expanding list of favourite musicians. He´s making a clarinet for me and suggested it would be done by April. Here´s hoping it doesn´t arrive until May, AFTER income tax season (April 30 in Canada) because it´ll be a terrible distraction for this tax preparer, but if it arrives early it´ll be very welcome anyway. Priorities, you know! Someone´s tax returns will have to be very late....
