If you go to the Study section of this website, then go to Teachers, you will find Barta listed. There is a link to a short bio from the Peabody Conservatory website.

I have studied with both of them. Now I am studying with Steve Barta. Chris Wolfe went to peobody for his under grad, won the BSO position around 1963. His major teachers include Sidney Forrest and Anthony Gigliotti. He did his undergrad at The Peobody Conservatory.
Steve Barta did his undergrad at Cleveland Institute of Music with additional studies at Boston University. He is a student of Robert Marchellous (however you spell his name), with additional studies with Harold Wright. Priciple of the Savanah Symphony orchestra, and now principle of the Baltimore Symphony since around 1976 or so. He teaches at the Peobody Conservatory of Music. This is most of the information i can get at the top of my head right now. I am probably missing a few things but this is the most important i think.

I have been studying with both of these clarinetists. I don't know much about their background but I do know that they both have helped me with my playing. Chris Wolfe(e-flat) is a more traditional type of teacher. He really puts a lot of emphasis on the albert scale studies and the Kroepsch studies. I have been studying with him for a while now. He has really helped with the basic fumdamentals of clarinet playing. He is also a wonderful conductor.
I have only started studying with Steve Barta(principal BSO). He is a wonderful teacher. There is a reason he is principal. He is carrying on the Marcellus school of clarinet. In only a few meetings with him i have improved immensely. One technique he teaches is raising the tongue to improve tone and response. Mr. Barta got a mouthpiece for me that is absolutely wonderful.
The entire Baltimore section is wonderful. Edward Palanker is the bass clarinetist in the BSO. He is another wonderful teacher who really lets the student develop their own style. The entire section (Ihave not met William Jenken yet) is full of wonderful musicians and teachers.
It is a joy to see them play.
